Rainbow in my Back Yard
It’s a difficult time to be a thinking American patriot. Easy to slip into hopelessness. Self care at a time like this means we have to permit ourselves a time out to experience the joy of being alive and finding love and beauty in the midst of madness, and to feel hope instead of despair. Michele and I are spending part of January in Panama, this week in the town of Boquete, pictured behind me after today’s afternoon shower
Hers is a slice of my song “Rainbow in my Back Yard,” from my upcoming album “Love & Salt Water.”
When the thunder clouds and the raging sea
Get together it appears to be
Like a heavenly conspiracy
To rain some hell on you
Seems like you’ve been forever waiting
But in a minute you’ll be celebrating
When the grey clouds all separate
And the sun comes shining through
When everything has gone to shit
It still feels cool, I must admit
To be alive and breathing on this shooting star
There’s another storm coming, we’ll, that’s my luck
No time for crying, cuz there’s a fucking
Rainbow in my back yard
We’ve seen red, we’ve been blue and green
And all the colors in between
We contemplate the ways and means
That brought us all this far
Together we can weather this
Knowing that we end up with
rainbow in our back yards
