About Rob
Rob Hill is one of tropical rock’s most respected singer-songwriters, known for crafting songs that transport listeners straight to the shore. Blending elements of country, rock, reggae, and island music, his lyric-driven style turns the beach into a symbol of escape, adventure, and living fully.

Throughout his life, Rob has been close to love and salt water. From his roots on Long Island’s north shore to his current home in Washington State on the south shore of the wrongly named Hood Canal (it’s actually a fjord), to his love of Mexico and the Gulf Shore in the American Southeast, he’s never been far from the waves.
So it’s no wonder that his music draws heavily on coastal settings and the metaphors that wash up on the beaches, in picturesque lyrics and image-driven songwriting. His forthcoming album, Love & Salt Water, arriving this May, is a ten-song collection rooted in that coastal imagery, lived experience, and emotional honesty. The songs stay close to the moment, letting beauty and reality exist side by side. Love, humor, desire and doubt are presented plainly, leaving listeners to discover their own messages in the bottles that wash up on shore in the lyrics.
The album takes its name from its title track, a grim but hopeful and humorous assessment of the state of the world that sees Rob seeking refuge and safety by wrapping himself in the comforting arms of love and salt water. The record unfolds like a coastal drive, beginning with the emotional ebbs and flows of “High Side of Low Tide” and the obsession-driven romantic sweep of “London.” The intimate “Foolishly” explores playful sexy curiosity within a committed relationship, while “One With the Ocean” offers a spiritual calmness and connection with the eternal, painted in the imagery of a final sail. Along the way, the album leans into lighthearted storytelling on the tropical escapist love song “Island Girl” and on the drinking song “Bar Hoping,” inspired by a typo in a social media post. Rob reflects on presence and beauty in the face of an approaching storm on “Stars Are Shining,” and on discovery of love and purpose and perspective in life’s twilight in the Stephanie Layton duet “Something Useful, and closes with the unmistakable hopefulness and optimism of “Rainbow in My Back Yard.”
Rob wrote or co-wrote every song on the album. “High Side of Low Tide,” co-written with Eric Erdman and Caitlin Cannon, was released in May and earned a 2025 Trop Rock Music Association Song of the Year nomination. “Stars Are Shining” followed in December, with “Island Girl” slated for release in February. “One With the Ocean,” co-written with Brittany Kingery, was released by Brittany and included on her 2014 masterpiece Dream in Blue, which Rob co-produced.
Love & Saltwater was produced by Brandon Bush and features musicians including Kristian Bush (Sugarland), Benji Shanks (BlackBerry Smoke, Megan Moroney), Travis McNabb (Better Than Ezra, Sugarland), and Justin Schipper (Kris Kristofferson, Shania Twain, Chris Stapleton). Background vocals appear throughout the album, including performances by the aforementioned Stephanie Layton, along with Rob’s daughters, Emalee and Ruby.
